Whether or not they are on a mat, our favorite characters often find themselves striking a pose. Here are the top 10+ from in pop culture and fandom… comment if I missed your favorite!
13.
Abbi in “Broad City”
This may just be the best Bow Pose ever performed on the floor of a dentist’s office. The fact that she did it while under the influence of Swedish fish (among other things) makes it even more lovely.
12.
Nathaniel in Crazy Ex Girlfriend’s “I’m Almost Over You”
Nathaniel in a cheesy rom com spoof in our favorite meta musical show? Of course he belongs in a yoga class in the park. Way to high lunge it, “fit hot guy”! Next, you go to the zoo…
11.
Antony in “The Great British Baking Show”
Antony Amourdoux’s Easy Pose is all of us just watching this wonderful, sweet, kind, quirky show – and a great reminder that we can always take just a couple seconds of calm however stressful our situation is.
10.
Obi-Wan Kenobi in “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith”
Obi-Wan is at his prime in his light saber duel with General Grievous. He strikes many fabulous poses (and transitions between them with incredibly cool flips and twirls), including this modified Warrior II. Bring it, Grievous!
9.
Frances “Baby” Houseman, “Dirty Dancing”
Nobody puts this yogi in the corner, and nobody has a more famous Cow pose than she does. She’s clearly enjoying this particular asana and all those that follow!
8.
Candace in Phineas and Ferb’s “Giant Ball of Water”
If anyone needs yoga to destress, it’s Phineas and Ferb’s high-strung older sister Candace. She tries yoga a couple of times to try to distract herself from their shenanigans – even if she always goes back to busting in the end.
7.
Naked animals in “Zootopia”
Thanks, Disney, for making me feel like I’m seeing something truly scandalous here! Bunny cop Judy Hopps is shocked at these animal yogis, who offer us many different poses in their short scene. It’s hard to argue with this being the best, though, for obvious reasons.
6.
Beverly Crusher and Deanna Troi, Star Trek: The Next Generation’s “The Price”
What can we say? It may be the future for these two awesome space ladies, but here it was 1989. Doing some yoga-like calisthenics in your bright shiny leotards in a just-slightly-modified hallway was the in thing to do. Crusher and Troi get mega points for being so game.
5.
Valencia in Crazy Ex Girlfriend’s “Josh’s Girlfriend is Really Cool!”
Any yogi who hasn’t heard the song “I’m so Good at Yoga” must immediately cease what they are doing, no matter how important, and go watch it on YouTube. Its explicit version is definitely NSFW but nevertheless a hilarious take on how some of us might feel a bit inadequate when faced with our awesome yoga teachers.
4.
Doc Brown, “Back to the Future”
It’s hard to beat this full body stretch, done as it is dangling from a huge clock as the seconds tick away to the fateful lightening strike that can send Marty back to his time. It certainly won’t melt away the stress, but the workout has got to be second to none.
3.
Mr. Brown, “Paddington 2”
The Paddington films are simply charming for many reasons, but one is that a yoga pose actually helps save the day in the second. Mr. Brown uses his mid-life crisis yoga class to pull off this amazing maneuver. Physics be darned, this is a life goal for sure.
2.
The Doctor, Doctor Who’s “Listen”
Where better could you meditate than sitting on top of the TARDIS, quite literally floating above the Earth? It’s got to be beyond gorgeous and a great way for the Doctor to zone out while he ponders the mystery of space and time. I’m still wondering where exactly the TARDIS light is in this pose, but maybe best not to go there.
1.
Luke Skywalker, “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back”
Finally, what geeky yoga pose could be more beloved? Luke is training to be a Jedi, balancing Yoda on his foot, using the Force, and showing some truly remarkably upper body strength on just one side. Secretly every fan pictures themselves practicing such Jedi badassery!
